Common Circular Saw Failures and Solutions – Practical Troubleshooting Guide
1. Overview

Circular saws are core equipment in the metal processing industry. Long-term high-load operation inevitably leads to various failures. Timely problem detection and correct solutions can not only reduce downtime but also extend equipment life and lower maintenance costs.

This article summarizes the most common circular saw failures, their causes, and solutions for operators and maintenance personnel.

2. Common Failures and Solutions
Failure 1: Reduced Cutting Accuracy

Symptoms:

  • Cutting length tolerance exceeds normal range (> ±0.2mm)
  • Cut end face is not square
  • Inconsistent dimensions within the same batch

Solutions:

  1. Check blade wear and replace worn blades promptly
  2. Calibrate feeding system, check screw gap and adjust parameters
  3. Check hydraulic system pressure to ensure adequate clamping force
  4. Clean optical ruler surface to ensure accurate signal reading
  5. Perform equipment precision recalibration
Failure 2: Blade Breakage or Tooth Chipping

Symptoms:

  • Cracks or complete breakage of blade
  • Chipped blade teeth
  • Abnormal noise during cutting

Solutions:

  1. Stop machine immediately and replace damaged blade
  2. Check feed speed setting and reduce appropriately
  3. Verify material hardness is within specification range
  4. Check cooling system for proper operation
  5. Correctly install new blade and adjust tension according to standards
Failure 3: Rough Cut Surface or Burrs

Symptoms:

  • Visible saw marks on cut end face
  • Burrs on cut edge
  • Surface roughness exceeds Ra3.2μm

Solutions:

  1. Replace with blade suitable for current material (tooth count, tooth type)
  2. Adjust blade speed to recommended range
  3. Check spindle bearing and blade flange; tighten or replace
  4. Check cooling nozzle position and flow rate
  5. Reduce feed speed appropriately
